Galaxy Joining Sporting Wichita

SPORTING WICHITA WELCOMES FC GALAXY TO THE FAMILY

March 19th, 2021

Sporting Wichita is excited to announce the addition of Moises Umana and Obi Mbawuike to our coaching staff for the 2021 Summer/Fall Season. Please join us in welcoming  both coaches and their FC Galaxy teams and players to our SW family. As competitors for many years with a similar vision, conversations with both our Technical Director, Qaies Al-Amood and current 08 boys head coach, Chris Wilson, led to the decision that will bring the opportunity to enhance and build on the current talent pool in both organizations.

FC Galaxy was formed in 2014 under the guidance of Coach Moises, with the mission to develop this young group of players into a team with a strong technical base, which has continued to flourish into a very successful team with a solid core of skilled players. “We believe this move will provide our players with advanced opportunities for development as well as the ability to enhance the talent pool in the 2008 and 2007 age groups. In addition, it will allow us to grow as coaches with the access to Sporting KC and Sporting Wichita Affiliate Coaching Education and experiences.”

Coach Obi played at Bethel College and WSU from 2006-2010 and has continued to play in Adult leagues since college. He decided to coach to share his passion for the game and a goal to develop players with both the fundamentals and technique to play at a higher level. He  joined FC Galaxy in 2019, after starting his coaching career with Wichita Pride.  He describes his coaching style as as simple, with an expectation for commitment, positive attitude and intensity.

“We are  excited to make this move to Sporting Wichita and about our new partnership. After being involved with Sporting Wichita as both a parent and now a coach I believe that together we will have  “a rich pool of 2008 players and that SW is the right platform for their development and growth.’” FC Galaxy teams have begun training with us at Stryker and will fully integrate following the conclusion of the Spring season, we look forward to working with them”, said Technical Director, Qaies Al-Amood.
