Sporting Wichita Soccer Club is pleased to announce that after an extensive search we welcome Qaies Al-Amood to the Sporting Wichita family to serve as our new Director of Coaching! Qaies brings 20+ years of experience to our club along with an extensive coaching resume.

Qaies started playing soccer at a young age in his home country of Iraq. He continued his playing career upon moving to the U.S., and has an extensive background in the youth soccer scene in Kansas, not only as a player but as a youth soccer coach since 1999. He first started his coaching career in 1999 with the Wichita Express, coaching his first boys team from U9-U16 through high school, finishing as State Finalists in 2003. He then moved on to coach with the Wichita Storm, where he mainly focused on coaching competitive boys

teams. In 2007 Qaies co-founded Santos Soccer Club, a well-established club in the greater Wichita region. He has coached teams across U6-U19 with Santos, competing in 5 State Competitions; 02 team were State Finalist in 2014, and his 01 team, winning the State Championship in 2017 and placing as U17 finalist in 2019. His Santos teams joined FC Wichita in 2016 and his current 01/02 team graduates this year. Many of Qaies’s former players plan to continue their playing careers at the Collegiate level having signed to Fort Hays State University, Tufts University, Georgia, Friends University, North Eastern U, Bethel College, William Jewell College, Rockhurst University, Newman University, and more. Coach Qaies currently holds a National “C” Coaching License, and is well known and respected in Kansas for his professionalism and knowledge of the game.

As Sporting Wichita’s new Director of Coaching, Qaies will lead the way in building coach education opportunities as well as youth programs that support growth of teams on the girls side. In regards to his immediate plans upon joining Sporting Wichita, Qaies said “I am looking forward to building on the current strengths of the club, helping to fill the gaps where there is a need and utilizing all of the amazing opportunities and resources that the Sporting KC Academy Affiliate program offers coaches and players.”

Qaies brings an enthusiasm, philosophy and vision that align with Sporting Wichita’s mission. “The search for the right D.O.C. has been a year-long process. We feel confident that Qaies is the perfect fit for the position and will help to continue to lead this Club in an exciting and positive direction, resulting in a quality soccer education for players, more consistent coaching between age groups, and ultimately the best possible Sporting Wichita soccer experience for our players” said SW Executive Director, Daniel FIszel. “ The DOC will work collaboratively with the Board in developing educational and enjoyable environments for our players as well as measuring program success.”

“We are excited to have Qaies join the Academy Affiliate family.” Nathan Hunt, Director of Coaching, Academy Affiliates for Sporting Kansas City said. “His knowledge, experience and reputation speaks for itself. We look forward to the energy and passion he will bring not only to Sporting Wichita but to the whole Sporting KC Youth Soccer family!”

Qaies and his wife, Eman, have 4 children. Their oldest son, Mehdi, is a Campus High School graduate, recently played at Newman U and will be moving on to play for Rockhurst this fall. Mehdi also recently received his Grassroots coaching license and currently coaches the u14 boys with Sporting Wichita. Their middle son, Hassan, plays at Campus HS and will be a senior this Fall. Their youngest son, Hossein, is a 2007 and very excited to join Sporting Wichita and his daughter, Nabaa, a sophomore, keeps busy competing in Debate and Forensics.
